Hydraulic System with EDTC

MEDET Hydraulic Modular E-Drive Testing per CISPR 25 with EDTC

One of the biggest challenges in modern automotive development is the electrification of the powertrain. This implies the use of powerful drive motors as well as other auxiliary electrical drives. Besides the well-known setup with one electric traction motor replacing the combustion engine, other concepts such as wheel hub drives, or fully integrated axles are used. These highly integrated electrical axles consisting the axle itself, the electric drive motor, the gearbox and the differential, cause challenges in EMC testing.

The MEDET system is one of the new power train setups using a hydraulic system. A power converter is outside the chamber and produces the oil pressure to the EUT power converter placed inside the chamber. The EDTC chamber solution is adapted for full compliant tests of automotive components according to CISPR 25 and ISO 11452.A permanent plug-in contact strip is installed between the absorbers to ensure the electrical connection of the test table to the shielding and includes the test table as required per to CISPR 25. The typical chamber is lined with ferrite absorbers and partially lined with Frankosorb®hybrid absorbers.

Flexibility

  • The connection of the power unit adaption unit (inside EMC facility) with flexible hoses, provides more installation options.
  • Multiple EMC test facilities in parallel; one power unit can feed multiple EMC facilities.
  • EMC testing of electric axles can be carried out without any modification of the device under test.

Scalability

  • The scalable setup of the MEDET system allows to adjust the size of the system perfectly to the customer’s need.
  • The power unit design can modular increased in 70 kW steps up to 280 kW.

Dynamic

  • Low oscillating weight of the adaption unit at the EUT for a fast adjustment.
  • Protection of EUT and test setup by using torque shocks attenuations.

Handling

  • Easy adaptation with the EUT module weighs less than 20 kg (with a 70kw power module) and can easily be installed with standardized mechanical fittings.
  • The connection to the power module with a quick coupling system.
  • The control of the complete test setup has been realized with an industrial touch panel and dedicated software. The basic adjustments before testing (torque mode, repetition mode) are quickly made.
  • The MEDET system allows all kinds of power flow (passive mode: test setup drives the EUT; active mode: EUT drives the test setup). Additionally, the system automatically synchronizes with the EUT.
